Poul Kjærholm created the Professor Desk as part of a series for the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The series combines wood and steel, and has a light, elegant expression which became characteristic for Kjærholm's career as a furniture designer.

Designed by Poul Kjærholm.

Poul Kjærholm - the Danish pioneer of modernism - designed a small furniture series for the Academy of Fine Arts in 1955, where he had just begun working as a lecturer. Kjærholm designed a Professor Desk (PK52) and a Student Desk (PK52A), made of wood and steel.

The Professor Desk has a light, simple design, and clearly demonstrates the exquisite interplay between materials which is typical of Kjærholm's designs.

In the Professor Desk, Kjærholm elegantly combined a lacquered steel frame with a veneered wood table top, thereby refining some of the design elements which would later characterise his furniture.

The Professor Desk is available with a table top made of Oregon pine or oak veneer, and with a reversible gray and black laminate tabletop. The frame is produced in black or grey lacquered steel. Drawer module is optional.

The designer

During his relatively short career as a furniture designer, Poul Kjærholm made his mark as one of the finest representatives of modernism. His work was deeply rooted in the Danish furniture tradition, but also inspired by some of the most prominent international designers.
